Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 4, 2025
Applies to the LinkSphinx Chrome extension and the LinkSphinx Options page.
Summary
LinkSphinx is designed to save and open your links quickly from the right-click menu. We do not sell your data, and we avoid collecting personal information wherever possible. Most data stays on your device in chrome.storage.local
.
Data We Process
1) On your device (local only)
- Saved links & categories: URLs you add, optional titles, and small favicon data.
- Preferences: e.g., open in new tab, animation on/off, UI settings.
- Imported bookmarks (optional): If you use “Import from Chrome Bookmarks,” we read your chosen folders once to copy those bookmarks into LinkSphinx’s local storage.
We do not read page content; we only use the URL/title you choose to save.
2) Our servers (minimal, only for Pro)
- License checks: If you purchase Pro, the Options page may contact our backend to validate your license key (and status). We store only what’s needed to operate licensing (e.g., a license identifier, status, and basic anti-fraud metadata).
- Payments: Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive your full payment details. Stripe may provide us non-sensitive records (e.g., payment ID, plan, timestamp) for accounting.
- Email delivery (optional): If you request your license by email, a trusted provider (e.g., Resend) sends it. We store only what’s needed to deliver that email.
How We Use Data
- Provide core features (save, search, and open your links via the context menu).
- Show optional UI feedback (a brief notification or a small “open shimmer” visual). We inject a tiny, ephemeral overlay script/CSS only to render that effect; we do not collect page content.
- Validate and manage Pro licensing after purchase.
- Comply with legal obligations (e.g., accounting/audit records for purchases).
Permissions & Host Access
We request only the permissions needed for the single purpose of saving and opening your links efficiently:
- storage: Save your links, categories, and preferences locally.
- contextMenus: Provide “Add this page” and quick-open menus.
- tabs / activeTab: Open or update the current tab when you launch a saved link; limit any visual overlay to the tab you interacted with.
- bookmarks (optional): Read your chosen folders once to import bookmarks you select.
- notifications: Confirm saves with a brief toast.
- unlimitedStorage: Support large personal libraries without sync quotas.
- scripting: Render the optional one-time “open shimmer” overlay. No page scraping.
- Host permissions: Only for license checks (our domain) and, if enabled, to render the ephemeral overlay on the page you open.
Data Sharing
- No sales of data.
- Service providers: Stripe (payments), optional email provider (license delivery). They process data under their own privacy policies.
- Legal: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.
Retention
- Local data: Stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the extension.
- Licensing records: Kept as long as necessary to operate Pro access and meet legal/accounting duties.
Your Choices & Controls
- Delete any link or category from the Options page.
- Clear LinkSphinx data via the Options page or
chrome://extensions
→ “Clear data,” or by uninstalling the extension.
- Disable visual effects in Settings if you prefer no overlay.
- If you purchased Pro and want your licensing email removed from our records, contact us below.
Children’s Privacy
LinkSphinx is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal data to us, contact us and we will promptly address it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data we handle. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Do Not Track
We do not track users across third-party sites, and the extension does not respond to DNT signals.
International Users
If you use LinkSphinx from outside the United States, you understand your information may be processed in the U.S. where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” above. Material changes will be highlighted within this page.
